We are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of level of expertise, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, personal appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, age, religion, nationality, or other similar characteristic.

This code of conduct outlines our expectations for all those who participate in our community, as well as the consequences for unacceptable behavior.

Expected behavior

The following behaviors are expected and requested of all community members:

Unacceptable behavior

The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable within our community:

Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behavior from any community member, including sponsors and those with decision-making authority, will not be tolerated.

Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. If a community member engages in unacceptable behavior, the moderators may take action. Responses may include:

Reporting Guidelines

These are the policies for upholding our community’s standards of conduct.

If you are subject to or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please notify a moderator as soon as possible. You can report inappropriate behavior you witnessed or experienced to the concerned organizer (incase you wish to discuss matters at the venue) or the moderator/admin (incase you wish to email your complaint and keep your identity a secret). You can email moderators at boardgamersofhyderabad@gmail.com. All reports will be handled with discretion and if possible, the identities of those reporting violations will be kept anonymous.

Note: we have 4 moderators, two male and two female. This team functions independently of the group’s administrators and has the authority to take action against all members, including the administrators and organizers.

  1. Remarks that violate our standards of conduct, including hateful, hurtful, oppressive, or exclusionary remarks, are not allowed. (Cursing is okay, but never targeting another member, and never in a hateful manner.)
  2. Remarks that moderators/organizers find inappropriate, whether listed in the code of conduct or not, are also not allowed.
  3. Moderators will first respond to such remarks with a warning.
  4. If the warning is unheeded, the user will be “kicked,” i.e., removed temporarily from communication channels.
  5. If the member comes back and continues to make trouble, they will be banned, i.e., indefinitely excluded from all our channels, both online and offline.
  6. Moderators may choose at their discretion to un-ban the member if it was a first offense and they offer the offended party a genuine apology.
  7. If a moderator bans someone and you think it was unjustified, please appeal through the email link or through verbal communication with the organizers, in private. Complaints about bans in-channel are not allowed.
  8. Moderators are held to a higher standard than other community members. If a moderator creates an inappropriate situation, they should expect less leeway than others.

And if someone takes issue with something you said or did, resist the urge to be defensive. Just stop doing what it was they complained about and apologize. Even if you feel you were misinterpreted or unfairly accused, chances are good there was something you could’ve communicated better — remember that it’s your responsibility to make your fellow members comfortable. Everyone wants to get along and we are all here first and foremost because we want to talk about and play board games. You will find that people will be eager to assume good intent and forgive as long as you earn their trust.

The enforcement policies listed above apply to all channels, both online and offline; including our WhatsApp Groups, Facebook Group, Facebook Pages, Instagram handles, and all physical events bearing our name.

If you wish to use this code of conduct for your own group, consider explicitly mentioning your moderation policy or making a copy with your own moderation policy so as to avoid confusion.
